Shillong, May 14: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that Meghalaya will be covered under Phase-III of the nationwide Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls.
According to the schedule released by the Commission, the Phase-III revision exercise in Meghalaya has been planned keeping in view the common field machinery engaged in the ongoing house-listing operations for the Census.
Preparatory activities and training for the revision exercise will be conducted from June 20 to June 29, 2026, while Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will carry out house-to-house verification from June 30 to July 29, 2026.
The draft electoral roll for Meghalaya will be published on August 5, 2026. Claims and objections can thereafter be filed till September 4, while the final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on October 7, 2026.
The exercise in Meghalaya and several other states will be carried out with October 1, 2026 as the qualifying date.
As per data released by the Commission, Meghalaya currently has 23,43,252 electors. To conduct the revision exercise across the state, 3,551 Booth Level Officers will be deployed.
Nationwide, the Phase-III Special Intensive Revision will cover 16 states and three Union Territories involving more than 36.73 crore electors. More than 3.94 lakh Booth Level Officers and 3.42 lakh Booth Level Agents are expected to participate in the exercise.
The Election Commission described the Special Intensive Revision as a participative process involving electors, political parties and election officials, and urged political parties to appoint Booth Level Agents at every polling station to ensure transparency and wider participation.
The Commission also informed that schedules for Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh will be announced later after completion of Census-related activities and considering weather conditions in snow-bound regions.
