Meghalaya Pushes Digital Economy at NASSCOM Industry Leaders’ Meet in Shillong

Shillong, May 14: The NASSCOM Industry Leaders’ Meet 2026 was held at the State Convention Centre in Shillong on Wednesday, bringing together top industry leaders, technology companies and government officials to discuss Meghalaya’s growing digital economy and IT ecosystem.

The programme was organised by the Information Technology & Communications Department, Government of Meghalaya in collaboration with NASSCOM.

A major highlight of the event was the signing of an agreement between StaffFlex Resolutions LLP and the Meghalaya Technology Parks Society for leasing space at Shillong Technology Park-II, making StaffFlex the first confirmed occupant of the facility.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, who witnessed the signing ceremony, said Meghalaya’s IT sector development has been a gradual journey built through sustained effort and ecosystem development.

He noted that the state has been consistently working towards building a stronger technology ecosystem since his earlier tenure as IT Minister in 2008 and renewed focus after assuming office as Chief Minister in 2018.

The Chief Minister highlighted that Shillong Technology Park-II is now ready while another IT Park is coming up in Tura, stressing that long-term ecosystem building is necessary for the IT industry to thrive in the state.

Industry leaders and stakeholders discussed several issues including startup ecosystem development, skilling, artificial intelligence, digital governance, ease of doing business and future-ready workforce development.

Participants also stressed the importance of stronger industry-academia collaboration, anticipatory skilling and integrating emerging technologies such as AI, prompt engineering and cyber hygiene into educational curricula.

The round table discussion chaired by the Chief Minister focused on positioning Shillong as a regional hub for IT services, innovation and AI-led governance solutions through coordinated efforts between government, industry and academic institutions.

Senior representatives from leading companies including Wipro, TaskUs, Tech Mahindra, Infosys BPM and other technology firms participated in the programme along with NASSCOM leadership.
