Shillong, May 15: The Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), Eastern West Khasi Hills District, organised a Certification Day programme at Tirot Sing Memorial Hall, Pyndengumiong, to felicitate trainees who successfully completed various skill development courses under the Skills Meghalaya initiative.
The programme was attended by Power Minister Metbah Lyngdoh, Deputy Commissioner of Eastern West Khasi Hills Smt. Anita Kharpor, IAS, and other officials. Addressing the gathering, Metbah Lyngdoh said the government has a major responsibility towards the growth and employment of the youth in the state. He stated that the government is working from the grassroots level to identify the challenges faced by young people and to provide skill-based solutions and employment opportunities.
The minister also lauded MSSDS for helping youth enhance their skills and abilities through various training programmes, enabling them to secure jobs in different sectors. He encouraged the trainees to work hard, make use of the opportunities provided, and confidently face future challenges.
Deputy Commissioner Anita Kharpor congratulated the trainees for successfully completing their courses across different disciplines. She highlighted that the Skills Meghalaya initiative has been able to secure placement opportunities for youths both within and outside the state, including international placements. She encouraged the youth to remain confident while exploring employment opportunities beyond Meghalaya.
During the programme, Training Completion Certificates were distributed to 671 trainees across 18 trades who underwent training during the financial year 2025-26.
Appointment letters were also handed over to several youths. Seven candidates secured placements at Barbeque Nation in Food and Beverage Services, Kitchen Operations, and Food Production, while three youths were placed locally at Lapynhun Resort, Sohiong.
The event also focused on entrepreneurship and financial empowerment. Mr. Frankie War received financial assistance of ₹63,200 under the PRIME Seed Scheme, while Mr. Phibakordor Marbaniang, a Fashion Designer trainee, received a bank loan cheque of ₹1.5 lakh under the KCC loan scheme to support his business venture.
Start-up tools were also distributed to beneficiary trainees trained under the Northeast Institute of Professional Studies (NeIPS), promoting self-employment opportunities for differently-abled individuals.
The programme concluded with MSSDS reiterating the importance of skill development in promoting sustainable economic growth, self-reliance, and social inclusion among the youth of Meghalaya.
