Union Minister Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma Reviews Central Schemes in South West Khasi Hills

Mawkyrwat, May 27: Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, Union Minister of State for Steel and Heavy Industries, visited South West Khasi Hills district on Tuesday to review the implementation of various Central and State government schemes and flagship programmes in the district.

The Minister was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Aitinolin L. Mawlong, IAS, Superintendent of Police B. Jyrwa, MPS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, F.B. Basan, MCS, along with other district officials.

During the visit, the Minister inspected the Civil Hospital in Mawkyrwat where he distributed Ayushman Bharat cards to 20 beneficiaries. He also visited Natural Farming activities being implemented under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) at Wahsiej and interacted with children and Anganwadi workers at Mawlangwir.

The Union Minister further visited the Mawranglang Viewpoint and inaugurated a PMAY-G house at Mawlangwir, where he handed over the house key to the beneficiary. He also inspected a footbridge and Water Tank-cum-Washing Platform at Mawpon and participated in a tree plantation programme.

Later, Varma chaired a review meeting with district heads at the Conference Hall of the Circuit House in Laitlawsang, Mawkyrwat, to assess the progress of various welfare schemes and development programmes in the district.

During the meeting, discussions were held on the implementation and progress of schemes including the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), health programmes, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), and other welfare initiatives. The Minister also interacted with district officials regarding challenges faced in implementing the schemes and reviewed measures being taken to address them.

Expressing satisfaction over the district’s performance, the Minister appreciated the efforts of the district administration in ensuring effective implementation of government programmes despite various challenges. He encouraged officials to continue working towards the overall development and progress of the district. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Additional Deputy Commissioner Shri F.B. Basan.
