Shillong Set to Host Free FIFA World Cup Fan Park from June 26

Shillong, June 24: The Government of Meghalaya has announced the launch of the Chief Minister’s Football Fan-Parkfor the FIFA World Cup 2026, offering football enthusiasts a free public venue to watch live matches and celebrate the world’s biggest football tournament together.

The fan park will be inaugurated on Friday, June 26, at the S.R.G.T. Parking Lot in Polo, Shillong, where supporters will be able to enjoy live screenings of FIFA World Cup matches on a giant screen in a festive community atmosphere.

To ensure maximum public participation, the screenings will focus exclusively on matches scheduled at fan-friendly timings, including kick-offs at 9:30 p.m., 10:30 p.m., and 12:30 a.m.

Adding to the excitement, the venue will also host special match-day performances by the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Grassroots Music Program (CM-MGMP), blending football and local entertainment into a month-long celebration.

The Department of Tourism said entry to the Football Fan-Park will be completely free, inviting both residents and visitors to come together and experience the excitement of the FIFA World Cup in a vibrant community setting.

According to the government, the initiative reflects Meghalaya’s commitment to promoting sports, supporting local talent and creating dynamic public spaces that bring communities together. It also complements the state’s vision of strengthening its football ecosystem, including its ambitious plan to build the country’s largest football stadium at Mawkhanu.
