Shillong, June 30: The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Shillong, successfully organised a Summer Boot Camp aimed at nurturing creativity among school students and introducing them to the fundamentals of professional design education through hands-on studio learning.
A total of 106 students from various schools, including Kendriya Vidyalaya, Air Force Station School, St. Edmund’s School, BK Bajoria School, and BSF Senior School, participated in the programme, which focused on encouraging creative thinking and practical design skills.
During the boot camp, participants received practical training in Tie & Dye, Kirigami, Knotting, and Braiding, enabling them to explore the creative use of basic materials such as cotton fabric, paper, and yarn while gaining an introduction to the world of design.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. T. Moasunep Jamir, Nodal Officer for Admissions at NIFT Shillong. Practical sessions were conducted by faculty members Ms. Meaidibahun Blah, Mr. Ksankupar Khonstit, and Ms. Tshering Dolkar.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Brijesh Deore, Director of NIFT Shillong, praised the enthusiasm and creativity displayed by the students during the multi-material learning sessions. He noted that the boot camp also served as an outreach and awareness initiative to introduce young learners to career opportunities in the field of design.
The closing ceremony was attended by Ms. Atoda Sayo, an alumna of NIFT Shillong, who shared her journey in the field of design and encouraged participants to build on the foundational skills they had acquired during the camp. She highlighted how learning basic material techniques had played a significant role in shaping her career.
The programme concluded with the distribution of participation certificates to all students, marking the successful completion of the Summer Boot Camp and reinforcing NIFT Shillong’s commitment to promoting creativity and design education among young learners.
