Shillong, July 1: The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Meghalaya has launched the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), 2026 of the electoral rolls, with more than 1.19 lakh Enumeration Forms (EFs) distributed across the state on the first day of the exercise.
According to a press note issued on Wednesday, the revision exercise is being conducted in line with the Election Commission of India’s programme with the objective of ensuring that no eligible citizen is left out while no ineligible person is included in the electoral roll.
House-to-house distribution of Enumeration Forms began on June 30, with 3,551 trained Booth Level Officers (BLOs)deployed across Meghalaya. They are supported by 60 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), 166 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), and 410 BLO Supervisors, all of whom have been trained for the revision process.
Meghalaya has a total electorate of 23,49,645 voters, averaging 662 electors per BLO. On the first day, 1,19,129 Enumeration Forms were distributed, covering 5.07 per cent of the state’s electorate.
Among the districts, South West Garo Hills recorded the highest coverage with 20.49 per cent of Enumeration Forms distributed, followed by North Garo Hills (10.25 per cent), South Garo Hills (6.67 per cent) and West Garo Hills (6.50 per cent). East Khasi Hills, which has the state’s largest electorate, distributed 28,006 forms, covering 4.43 per cent of its voters.
The CEO’s office stated that the house-to-house verification and distribution drive will continue until July 29, 2026. During the enumeration phase, BLOs will distribute the forms in duplicate, collect one completed copy with an acknowledgement, and make up to three visits if a house is found locked. No supporting documents are required at this stage, although electors must affix a recent passport-size photograph to the form.
Electors may also complete and submit their Enumeration Forms online through the ECINET mobile application or the Voter Services Portal. The legacy 2005 Electoral Roll has also been made available on the Chief Electoral Officer’s website, District Administration websites, the ECINET app and with BLOs to help voters verify their details before filling out the forms.
The Chief Electoral Officer has appealed to all eligible voters to cooperate with Booth Level Officers, submit their completed Enumeration Forms within the prescribed time, and actively participate in the Special Intensive Revision to ensure that Meghalaya’s electoral roll remains accurate, complete and up to date.
