Two Held With Suspected Heroin During Anti-Infiltration Drive in Shillong

Shillong, July 6: Two persons were arrested with suspected heroin during a joint anti-infiltration and anti-drug trafficking operation conducted by the Anti-Infiltration Drive (AID) personnel and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in East Khasi Hills on Monday.

According to a press release issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, police checked a total of 35 individuals during the operation as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal infiltration and drug trafficking.

Police said several persons fled the area on noticing the security personnel. The 35 individuals who were checked produced identity and residence documents issued by other states. The authenticity of these documents will be verified with the respective state authorities.

During the operation, ANTF personnel apprehended Rahim Ali (43) and Jaibanu (35), a husband and wife, after they were allegedly found in possession of 116 vials containing suspected heroin weighing 14.42 grams.

The suspected contraband was seized in the presence of independent witnesses.

Police have registered a case at Sadar Police Station under Case No. 242(7)2026 under Sections 21(b)/29 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
