Miss Universe Meghalaya 2026 Sanwaka Surong to Represent State at Miss Universe India

Shillong, July 17: Reigning Miss Universe Meghalaya 2026, Sanwaka Surong, is set to represent the state at the Miss Universe India 2026 pageant, carrying Meghalaya’s aspirations to the national stage.

A 26-year-old communications professional and content creator from Shillong, Surong holds a postgraduate degree in Tourism and Travel Management. She currently serves as the Communications Coordinator at Hello Meghalaya, the state’s first government-owned OTT platform, where she also anchors The Weekly Show.

Sanwaka’s pageant journey has been marked by perseverance and determination. She was the First Runner-Up at Miss Cherry Blossom 2018 and Miss Meghalaya 2019, finished among the Top 5 finalists at Miss Teen India International, and was crowned Sunsilk Mega Miss North East 2021.

After taking a four-year break to focus on personal growth and professional commitments, she returned to the pageant circuit and won the Miss Universe Meghalaya 2026 title.

Beyond the competition, Surong says her mission is inspired by the dream of her late mother and shaped by the loss of both her parents. She hopes to use her platform to advocate for children without parental care by supporting children’s homes and promoting initiatives that provide hope, opportunities and compassion for vulnerable children.

The Miss Universe India 2026 competition will begin on July 18, with events scheduled across Jaipur, Bengaluru, Indore and New Delhi. The preliminary competition will be held on August 20, followed by the grand finale on August 23, where Sanwaka Surong will represent Meghalaya on the national stage.
