Shillong, July, 21: The Umroi Airport on Tuesday reverberated with celebrations as the All Meghalaya Karate Do Association (AMKA), along with the parents, relatives and well-wishers of two young karatekas, accorded a warm welcome to Daniel Dabiangbha Warjri and Gideon Tympuin upon their return after winning medals at the 10th Cadet, Junior, U-21 and Senior South Asian Karate Championship 2026 held in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Daniel Dabiangbha Warjri won the gold medal in the Boys’ Junior Individual Kumite (-68 kg) category, while Gideon Tympuin secured the bronze medal in the Men’s U-21 Individual Kata category.
The two AMKA karatekas earned the opportunity to represent India at the international championship following their impressive performances in various national-level competitions held earlier this year.
Gideon was selected for the Dhaka championship after winning the gold medal at the 5th KIO Senior & U-21 National Karate Championship 2026, held in New Delhi in February.
Daniel, meanwhile, secured a silver medal in the Individual Kumite Junior -68 kg category at the 5th KIO Sub-Junior, Cadet & Junior National Karate Championship 2026, held in Dehradun in June this year.
On their return journey, the two karatekas also happened to meet the Working President of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) John F. Kharshiing, in Kolkata and travelled on the same flight back to Meghalaya on July 21, along with East Shillong MLA Dr M. Ampareen Lyngdoh and former Malki MDC Fantin Lakadong.
At Umroi Airport, Daniel and Gideon were received by their parents, family members and well-wishers, along with AMKA Secretary Ksan Kupar Warjri, Coach Donboklang Lyngdoh and others.
