Congress stages protest outside Governor’s residence, condemns NDA government over Delhi police action

Shillong, July 21: Leaders and members of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee on Monday night staged a protest outside the residence of the Governor of Meghalaya, carrying placards and raising slogans against the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government.

The protest was held in solidarity with the ongoing agitation in Delhi, where protesters have allegedly faced lathi-charge and tear gas action by police. The agitation, reportedly organised by the Cockroach Janta Party, has been demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged leak of NEET-UG examination question papers.

Speaking to the media, MPYC leader Banphiralang Basaiawmoit said the Congress party would always come forward to oppose any injustice faced by citizens of the country, wherever it occurs.

The protest, however, was stopped after a team of police personnel arrived at the spot and intervened while Congress members were carrying out their demonstration.

The Congress leaders and members condemned the alleged use of force against protesters and reiterated their opposition to the NDA Government’s handling of the issue.
