Shillong, July 25: The Directorate of Educational Research and Training (DERT), under the Education Department, Government of Meghalaya, has successfully conducted the Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test (MTET) 2026 across the State. The examination was held on July 24 for both Paper I and Paper II at 58 examination centres spread across all districts and sub-divisions of Meghalaya.
According to DERT, 23,101 candidates had applied for Paper I, meant for aspiring teachers of Classes I to V, while 22,821 candidates registered for Paper II, which is meant for teachers of Classes VI to VIII. The examination witnessed an impressive turnout, with 95.23 per cent of candidates appearing for Paper I and 95.89 per cent appearing for Paper II.
The Directorate stated that, as per the norms of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), qualifying the Teacher Eligibility Test is one of the essential qualifications for the appointment of teachers for Classes I to VIII. The high attendance reflects both the enthusiasm of aspiring teachers and the commitment of in-service teachers to qualify the examination.
DERT further informed that the MTET 2026 was conducted in a fair and transparent manner, and the results will be announced in due course. The Education Department expressed satisfaction over the smooth conduct of the examination and appreciated the cooperation extended by all stakeholders in ensuring its successful completion.
