Shillong, July 27: The East Khasi Hills Police on Monday launched Operation Free Flow, a dedicated traffic enforcement initiative aimed at improving vehicular movement and reducing traffic congestion across Shillong. The initiative, launched by the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, will focus on removing vehicles parked haphazardly and in designated No Parking zones, which have been identified as one of the major causes of traffic congestion in the city.
As part of the launch programme, appreciation letters were presented to Officers-in-Charge of various traffic branches and Gazetted Officers (GOs) in recognition of their commendable performance during Operation Safer Shillong. To strengthen enforcement against illegal parking, the police also distributed newly procured wheel clamps to the newly constituted Shillong Traffic Enforcement Team (STET).
Addressing the officers, the Superintendent of Police stressed the importance of ensuring that traffic enforcement is carried out in a fair, professional and impartial manner. He said that Operation Free Flow is a citizen-centric initiative aimed at easing congestion, improving traffic mobility and enhancing public convenience across Shillong.
The launch programme was attended by the Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic), DSP Traffic, DSP (Headquarters) and the Officers-in-Charge of all Traffic Branches. The event concluded with the flagging off of the Shillong Traffic Enforcement Team, formally marking the commencement of Operation Free Flow across the city.
