Shillong, August 5: The Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR) represented the state at the first-ever North East Regional Convention on Child Rights held in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, on July 31 and August 1.
The two-day convention, hosted by the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, brought together representatives of State Commissions from across the North Eastern region, including Sikkim.
Participants deliberated on pressing child rights issues and discussed ways to strengthen regional cooperation, coordination and collaborative action for the protection and promotion of children’s rights.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurated the convention. The programme concluded with the adoption of the Tawang Declaration on Child Rights, which was ratified by the chairpersons and representatives of the participating State Commissions.
The declaration reaffirmed the stakeholders’ commitment to inter-state cooperation and coordination to ensure that children across the North East are seen, heard and empowered, and that their rights are safeguarded.
The Meghalaya commission welcomed the outcome of the convention and reiterated its commitment to working with its counterparts across the region to strengthen the protection of children’s rights through sustained collaboration and coordinated action.
