Shillong, August 26: The General Secretary of the Civil Society Women’s Organisation (CSWO), Christabell Wanniang, on Wednesday lodged an FIR at Umiam Police Station in Ri-Bhoi district against a non-tribal man identified as Muskan Uddin of Hojai, Assam, for allegedly making derogatory and offensive remarks against Khasi women and men on social media.
According to the complaint, Uddin allegedly used insulting and objectionable language against Khasi women, referring to them in a derogatory manner, while also making remarks intended to demean the dignity and honour of Khasi men.
The alleged comments by Uddin have widely circulated on social media, including remarks targeting the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), following the black-flag rally held in Shillong on August 19, 2026, which was followed by a series of incidents in the city.
Wanniang urged the police to immediately arrest Uddin and take appropriate legal action against him under the relevant provisions of law.
Meanwhile, the Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) also lodged an FIR on Wednesday with the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Vivek Syiem, against two individuals from Assam over alleged derogatory remarks against Khasi women and men, as well as the KSU.
The two individuals named in the complaint are Muskan Uddin of Hojai, Assam, and another person using the Facebook account name “Mumu Mumu”, reportedly from Golaghat, Merapani, Assam.
The HYC has demanded the immediate arrest of both individuals and warned that if the police fail to take action, the organisation would be compelled to take further steps.
