Ri Bhoi College marks 42nd anniversary, remembers former CM Dr. DD Lapang

Nongpoh, September 9: The Ri Bhoi College on Wednesday celebrated its 42nd anniversary, while also observing the first death anniversary of former Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr DD Lapang, who was one of the founders of the college and former President of its Governing Body.

The anniversary celebration began with the hoisting of the college flag by Nongpoh MLA Mayral Born Syiem, in the presence of college authorities and other dignitaries.

Among those present were RR Makdoh, one of the prominent persons involved in the establishment of Ri Bhoi College; Prof SN Lamare, Head of the Department of History, NEHU; Secretary of the Governing Body WK Blah; and Dr DD Lapang’s son Baluk Blah, besides others.

Speaking on the occasion, RR Makdoh, Prof SN Lamare and Meaidibahun Blah highlighted the contributions of Dr DD Lapang, particularly his role in establishing Ri Bhoi College and his wider contributions as a prominent leader of Ri Bhoi and Meghalaya.

The speakers recalled several of Dr Lapang’s major contributions, including his efforts towards the creation of Ri Bhoi district in 1992, establishment of Northern Ri Bhoi College and Alpha English Higher Secondary School, besides various initiatives aimed at promoting development and progress in Ri Bhoi and the State.

The occasion served both as a celebration of the college’s 42-year journey and a tribute to the legacy of Dr DD Lapang and his contribution to education and the development of Ri Bhoi.
