Shillong, September 21: A man was reportedly caught and assaulted by members of the public near Red Cross, Laban, Shillong, after he was accused of forcibly snatching an earring from a minor girl walking along the road.
According to information available, the incident occurred on September 20, 2026, between approximately 11:15 am and 11:30 am.
A video circulated on social media and shared with Batesi TV purportedly showed police personnel arriving at the spot following the incident. Police were later seen recovering an earring from the roadside near the Sports Club. It was alleged that the accused had thrown the earring away after reportedly taking it from the minor girl.
The man was subsequently taken into custody by personnel of Laban Police Station for questioning. Police are conducting further investigation into the incident.
