Bank Unions Defer Strike After Understanding Reached with IBA

New Delhi, September 28: The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has deferred its proposed strike and agitation programmes following an understanding reached with the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) on several pending issues, including the demand to declare the remaining Saturdays as bank holidays.

According to a UFBU circular dated September 27, a meeting between representatives of the IBA and UFBU was held at 9.30 pm, after which both sides agreed on a series of measures aimed at resolving the outstanding demands.

A high-level committee comprising representatives of the IBA and UFBU will be constituted immediately to examine the issue of declaring the remaining Saturdays as holidays. The committee will consider possible alternatives, consult stakeholders and work towards a solution acceptable to all concerned, particularly customers.

On the Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for officers in Scale IV and above, the unions said discussions would begin with the IBA on possible modifications to be proposed to the government to address concerns raised by unions and officers’ associations.

The two sides also agreed to take up residual issues listed in the minutes dated March 8, 2024, for an early resolution.

“In view of the above,” the UFBU said, the proposed agitation programmes and strike action have been deferred.

The circular was jointly issued by representatives of AIBEA, AIBOC, NCBE, AIBOA, BEFI, INBOC and INBEF.
