Nongstoiñ , October 4: A man convicted in the 2021 murder of a 79-year-old woman and her 25-year-old housemaid in Nongstoin has been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for the remainder of his natural life without parole, according to the West Khasi Hills Police.
The case dates back to August 24, 2021, when a complainant reported that his 79-year-old mother had been found dead inside the dish-washing room of her house at Nongstoin Village after the house was found locked from outside. The body of the 25-year-old housemaid was also discovered in a bedroom. Police suspected that both women had been murdered.
A case was subsequently registered at Nongstoin Police Station under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC. The investigation was entrusted to WPSI D.P. Nongbri.
During the investigation, police identified the accused as Banphrangkupar Nongbri. After gathering evidence, the investigating officer submitted a charge sheet against him under Section 302 of the IPC.
On September 30, 2026, the District and Sessions Judge, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin, convicted Nongbri in the twin murder case and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for the rest of his natural life without parole.
The court also imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh for each deceased victim for the offence punishable under Section 302 of the IPC.
