Shillong, October 6: More than 94 per cent of notice cases under Meghalaya’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 have been completed, with the Final Electoral Roll scheduled for publication on October 26, the Chief Electoral Officer’s office said on Monday.
Chief Electoral Officer Dr B.D.R. Tiwari held a virtual review meeting with Deputy Commissioners/District Election Officers, Electoral Registration Officers, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers and other election officials to assess the progress of the revision exercise across the state. A separate meeting was also held with representatives of recognised national and state political parties to brief them on the progress of SIR, notice and hearing cases, and voter-facilitation measures introduced by the Election Commission of India.
According to the latest figures, Meghalaya has 21,69,243 electors in the Draft Electoral Roll, of whom 6,51,735 were issued notices. Of these, 6,51,391 notices have been delivered, leaving only 344 notices pending delivery. A total of 6,13,512 hearing cases have been completed, accounting for 94.14 per cent of the notices generated. So far, 1,510 electors have been found ineligible for inclusion in the Final Electoral Roll after the prescribed process, while 19,96,297 electors have been parked for final publication. Of the notices generated, 2,22,786 relate to “No Mapping” cases, while 4,28,949 involve mapping discrepancies. The CEO directed election officials to concentrate on the remaining cases and ensure that every eligible elector is given adequate opportunity under the prescribed procedure.
The Election Commission has also reiterated that electors issued notices because they are unmapped or have logical discrepancies will ordinarily not need to visit the ERO or AERO office. Instead, the concerned Booth Level Officer (BLO) will visit their homes, collect the required documents and upload them on ECINET for a decision by the ERO.
Hearings will be required only in exceptional circumstances and should preferably be conducted online. Electors may also authorise an adult family member to attend a hearing on their behalf. DEOs have further been directed to establish help desks and special camps for people living in night shelters, labourers, economically disadvantaged persons, homeless persons and others requiring assistance.
Meanwhile, 23,259 applications have been received and digitised during the revision process, comprising 12,624 Form 6 applications, 1,616 Form 7 applications, 1,590 Form 8 applications for shifting and 7,429 Form 8 applications for correction.
Political parties are participating in the exercise through 1,814 Booth Level Agents, including 736 from the NPP, 393 from the BJP, 320 from the VPP, 186 from the Congress, 121 from the UDP and 58 from the AITC. The CEO urged political parties to continue cooperating through their BLAs and assist in disseminating accurate information on SIR and the latest voter-facilitation measures.
As per the revised Election Commission schedule, Meghalaya’s Final Electoral Roll will be published on October 26, 2026. Electors contacted by their BLOs have been requested to cooperate and submit the required documents. After publication, voters have also been advised to verify that their names appear in the Final Electoral Roll.
