Mawkyrwat, October 7: Leaders of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Umdohlun Circle and Warsanlyngdoh Circle on Wednesday inspected the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Wahkaji in South West Khasi Hills district following complaints from residents regarding inadequate facilities at the health centre.
In a statement issued to the media along with photographs, the KSU said that during their interaction with doctors serving at the PHC, several deficiencies were brought to their notice.
The doctors reportedly highlighted shortages of staff, including the need for a pharmacist, office staff and a laboratory assistant. Other concerns included the absence of a boundary wall around the health centre, inadequate toilet facilities for patients, power-related problems and the lack of a proper waiting area for patients.
The KSU also said that the PHC lacks a conference room, Ayush OPD room and store room, while accommodation facilities for staff remain inadequate. The organisation further pointed out that an X-ray machine is among the most urgent requirements at the health centre.
The KSU urged the State Health and Family Welfare Department to take immediate steps to address the deficiencies and improve healthcare facilities at the PHC. The organisation also appealed to Ranikor MLA Pius Marwein to take up the matter with the State Government, stating that residents of the Warsanlyngdoh and Phlangdiloin areas continue to face difficulties due to the lack of adequate facilities at the health centre.
