Shillong, October 8: The Meghalaya Teacher Training Academy (MTTA) and Bharti Airtel Foundation on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen continuous professional development of teachers across the state through TheTeacherApp.
The MoU was signed at the Cabinet Room of the Main Secretariat Building in Shillong in the presence of Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, who chaired the programme.
The event was attended by Education Commissioner and Secretary Vijay Kumar Mantri, MTTA Director Jacqueline Una Kharpuri, Bharti Airtel Foundation Chief Operating Officer Binu Nair, Regional Head Kumar Ashutosh and senior officials from the Education Department, MTTA and related directorates.
Under the partnership, teachers in Meghalaya will gain access to TheTeacherApp, a free-for-life digital platform offering self-paced professional development courses, expert-led webinars, AI-powered tools for lesson planning and assessment, classroom resources, question banks and opportunities to connect with a wider professional learning community.
The platform, aligned with the priorities of the National Education Policy 2020, also provides peer-to-peer collaboration through the Teachers’ Lounge and AI-enabled adaptive tools aimed at improving classroom practices and student learning outcomes. It currently reaches more than 3.25 lakh users across all 36 states and Union Territories in partnership with NITI Aayog and state governments.
Speaking on the occasion, Rymbui said continuous learning for teachers is central to improving the quality of school education.
“Technology-enabled platforms like TheTeacherApp will provide educators in Meghalaya with accessible, relevant, and need-based professional development resources that complement classroom practices,” he said.
Bharti Airtel Foundation COO Binu Nair said the platform aims to support teachers with practical classroom resources, innovative digital tools and continuous learning opportunities to help them grow professionally and improve student learning.
The partnership is aimed at strengthening teacher capacity and promoting quality education through continuous professional learning and greater use of technology in classrooms.
