CM APPEALS TO UNION MINISTER TO RELOCATE MEGHALAYA STUDENTS OF CAU IMPHAL TO CAU CAMPUS IN KYRDEMKULAI

Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma has written to Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar, requesting his intervention to make arrangements for the students of Meghalaya pursuing their 4th year of BSc. Agriculture at CAU in Imphal.

The CM said that the students are unable to conduct their Rural Agriculture Work Experience (RAWE) Programme in Manipur due to the recent unrest in the state. He requested Tomar to allow the students to conduct their RAWE programme under the aegis of the CAU located at Kyrdemkulai, a constituent college of the CAU in Imphal.

Sangma also appealed to the Union Minister to relocate all the Meghalayan students of CAU Imphal to CAU Campus in Meghalaya’s Kyrdemkulai until normalcy returns to Manipur. He said that this will ensure that the students are able to continue their education without any interruption.

The CM expressed his gratitude to Tomar for the sustained efforts that are made by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare. He also highlighted how the state government, in coordination with the government of India, facilitated the safe return of the Meghayans from Manipur during the recent unrest.

It must be noted that about 80 percent of the state’s population is dependent on agriculture for their livelihoods. The CM’s request is a timely one, as it will help to ensure that the students of Meghalaya are able to continue their education and contribute to the development of the state’s agriculture sector.
