CAS CALLS ON GOVERNOR TO RESTORE PEACE IN MANIPUR

Shillong, August 08 : A delegation from the Catholic Association of Shillong met with the Governor of Meghalaya today to request his intervention in restoring peace and harmony to the state of Manipur. The delegation handed over a memorandum to the Governor addressed to the President of India, calling for immediate action to address the ongoing violence in Manipur.

The memorandum was adopted at a peace rally organized by the Catholic Association of Shillong in collaboration with the Meghalaya Church Leaders Forum and the Khasi and Jaintia Christian Leaders Forum on August 5. The rally was attended by thousands of people from all over Meghalaya, who expressed their solidarity with the people of Manipur and called for an end to the violence.

The delegation to the Governor was led by J A Lyngdoh, President of the Catholic Association of Shillong. Other members of the delegation included Ronnie V Lyngdoh, Vice President; Kiltiora Marbaniang, Vice President; Richard Kahit, Vice President; and Barnabas Nongbah, General Secretary.

In the memorandum, the delegation expressed concern about the deteriorating security situation in Manipur and called for the immediate deployment of additional security forces to the state. They also urged the government to initiate a dialogue with all stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the conflict.

The delegation also expressed solidarity with the people of Manipur and offered their support in the search for peace. They said that the people of Meghalaya stand with the people of Manipur in their quest for peace and justice.
