Shillong, October 31 : The District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills District, Shillong, has prohibited the operation of unauthorized toll gates and any form of forcible collection along the National Highways, State Highways, and Major District Roads of the district.
This comes after the office of the District Magistrate received several complaints, reports, and grievances against the operation of unauthorized toll gates in the district.
The Government of Meghalaya has adopted a “Zero Tolerance” Policy towards the existence of any illegal toll/check gate or forcible collection from traffic plying along the National Highways, State Highways, and Major District Roads of East Khasi Hills.
The District Magistrate has warned that the installation of illegal toll/check gates and barriers for forcible collection obstructs the seamless traffic flow causing inconvenience to road users and is also hazardous in terms of safety and may lead to road accidents.
The District Magistrate has also stated that the operation of unauthorized toll gates and forcible collection leads to leakage of public revenue.
Therefore, the District Magistrate has strongly prohibited the operation of unauthorized toll gates/check gates and any form of forcible collection along the National Highways, State Highways, and Major District Roads of East Khasi Hills.
The District Magistrate has also warned that any violation of this order will be strictly dealt with as per legal provisions.
