ASSAM RIFLES HOSTS HALF MARATHON TO PROMOTE UNITY AND FITNESS

Shillong, November 26 : The Governor of Meghalaya, Phagu Chauhan, graced the prize distribution ceremony of the third edition of the Half Marathon organized by Assam Rifles at the Headquarters of Directorate General Assam Rifles, Laitkor, Shillong on November 26, 2023.

The Half Marathon, organized as part of the “Fit India Movement,” aimed to promote the spirit of unity in diversity and National Unity. It was open to all individuals above 18 years of age, both male and female, in different categories.

Handing over the prizes to the winners of the 21 Kms category, the Governor appreciated the enthusiasm and spirit of the participants and the spectators. The 21 Km category saw participation from 290 runners in the 18 to 30 age group, 199 in the 30 to 40 age group, 123 in the 40 to 50 age group, and 135 in the over 50 years’ age group.

Held against the backdrop of the scenic and majestic hills of East Khasi District at Laitkor, the event was a major success, witnessing massive and enthusiastic participation from serving personnel and families of Assam Rifles, 101 Area, Eastern Air Command, CRPF, CISF, SSB, and Meghalaya Police. Adding a competitive edge to the event, seasoned Cross Country runners from all over the country participated in the physical and virtual modes, presenting a challenge to the runners of the Armed Forces and CAPFs. The run was divided into two categories: 21 Kms and 10 Kms, each with its own age groups. A total of 747 people participated in the 21 Kms half Marathon, and 694 in the 10 Kms run, in both physical and virtual modes.

In the under 30 years’ category, Mr. Emphius Nongrum emerged as the winner in the 21 Km run, while Mrs. Bandasharai Marwei secured the top spot in the Female category. For the 10 Km run, Mr. Iohborlang Nongspung claimed victory in the Male category, and Mrs. Marqueenless Ramsiej topped the Female category.
