East Jaintia Hills, June 15 : In view of heavy rainfall and severe lightning and thundering in the district over the past few days, and in anticipation of very heavy rainfall forecast by the India Meteorological Department, all schools in the district will remain closed on June 16th and 17th, 2023.
The order was issued by Abhilash Baranwal, IAS, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, East Jaintia Hills District. The order said that the closure of schools was being done to avoid exposing students to any danger. It also said that all students and teachers should stay indoors and avoid going out unless absolutely necessary.
The order further said that the District Disaster Management Authority was closely monitoring the situation and would take further action as needed. The heavy rainfall and severe weather conditions have reports of landslides and flooding. The district administration has urged people to be vigilant and to take all necessary precautions to stay safe.
