Shillong, June 4 : A Bangladeshi national was apprehended on the evening of June 2, 2025, after being found hiding without valid documents in a rented house in Lawsohtun Block-VI, Shillong.
The individual has been identified as Restley Blah, a 22-year-old male from Synrem Thymmai village in the Sylhet District of Bangladesh. He was discovered at the residence of Shri Raju Pohktai (24 years), a resident of Darrang Dawki, West Jaiñtia Hills, who currently resides in Lawsohtun Block-VI.
Following his apprehension, the intruder was taken to the Civil Hospital (CH) Shillong for a medical examination.
In a separate incident on the same day, June 2, 2025, alert troops of the 200 Battalion BSF Meghalaya, acting on specific intelligence, apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals near the International Border in South Garo Hills District. The group, consisting of one male and two females, revealed that they had traveled from Bengaluru, where they had been working in a garment factory, and were attempting to illegally cross into Bangladesh.
Continuing their vigilance, on June 3, 2025, troops from the 4th and 200th Battalions of BSF Meghalaya conducted separate operations near the International Border in East Khasi Hills (EKH) and South Garo Hills (SGH). These operations resulted in the apprehension of four more Bangladeshi nationals—one male and three females—who were caught while attempting to illegally enter Indian territory.
The recent apprehensions underscore the persistent challenges of illegal immigration across the Indo-Bangladesh border and the continuous efforts by Meghalaya Police and the Border Security Force to maintain border integrity. Investigations into these incidents are ongoing.
