Bike Theft Cases Rise in Shillong; Police Recover Three Stolen Motorcycles, Two Arrested

Shillong, March 4: The East Khasi Hills District Police has issued an advisory following a recent increase in cases of two-wheeler thefts in the district, particularly from areas within Shillong city.

According to the advisory issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, police teams conducting intensified patrolling and naka checking recovered three stolen motorcycles on March 2, 2026. The vehicles bearing registration numbers ML-05-T-7719, ML-05-AF-5335, and ML-10-D-0839 were recovered from Mawkynroh, Langlibun areas.

Police have also arrested two persons allegedly involved in the bike theft cases, and further investigations are currently underway. Authorities said additional preventive measures are being implemented to curb such crimes in the district.

The district police have urged citizens to take precautionary steps to safeguard their vehicles. Residents have been advised to avoid parking two-wheelers along roadsides for long periods, Use wheel locks as an additional security measure and Install GPS tracking devices to help locate vehicles if stolen.

The police also called on stakeholders and vehicle owners to cooperate with law enforcement in preventing such incidents.
