Shillong, January 29 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Meghalaya Pradesh, has strongly condemned the recent appearance of a threat poster at Araimile, Tura, in West Garo Hills, which targeted the indigenous Garo community, warning them to vacate their ancestral lands.
In a statement issued by State General Secretary Wankitbok Pohshna, the BJP described the incident as a “rude awakening call” for both the State and the nation, urging the State Government to take swift and exemplary action to identify and arrest those responsible. “The indigenous Garos have been explicitly threatened on their own land. The State must act decisively, and citizens must remain vigilant to thwart the evil designs of criminals operating from across the border,” the statement read.
The party also called upon the Central Government to take cognisance of the incident, assuring citizens that India’s security forces are fully capable of crushing any such misadventures by extremist elements.
Highlighting the growing concern over jihadi activities and cross-border infiltration, the BJP alleged that the situation has been exacerbated by political interests, particularly accusing the Congress of allowing illegal immigrants into the State for electoral gains over several decades.
The statement reiterated the BJP’s long-standing stance against illegal immigration, noting that mechanisms such as Special Intensive Revision (SIR) are already in place to detect and expel foreign nationals residing unlawfully in the State.
“The BJP stands as a bulwark against illegal settlers. We remain committed to identifying and evicting every unlawful immigrant from our land,” said Pohshna.
The BJP stressed that the threat is not limited to the Garos alone but extends to the Khasi and Jaintia communities as well, calling it a direct attack on the State’s indigenous identity.
The party warned that the poster’s message reflects an attempt to radicalise youth and destabilise the demographic and cultural fabric of Meghalaya by replacing its indigenous people with radical elements from across the border. “This must never be allowed to happen. Meghalaya’s indigenous identity and communal harmony must be protected at all costs,” the statement emphasised.
Urging people across Meghalaya, the North East, and the entire nation to unite beyond differences, the BJP appealed for a collective stand against extremism and divisive forces, ensuring peace and security in every home.
