BSF Foils Two Cross-Border Smuggling Attempts, Arrests Seven

Shillong, March 20 : The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya, in collaboration with local police, has successfully thwarted two separate cross-border smuggling attempts, apprehending a total of seven individuals, including four Bangladeshi nationals and three Indians.

On March 16, 2025, vigilant troops of the 50th Battalion BSF, working alongside local police, intercepted a vehicle in South West Garo Hills and apprehended four Bangladeshi nationals along with an Indian auto driver. The individuals were attempting to cross the international border. The apprehended individuals and the seized vehicle were handed over to Mehenderganj Police Station for further legal action.

In a separate operation on March 19, 2025, BSF Meghalaya, in collaboration with state police, apprehended two Indian nationals and seized a Tata Sumo vehicle loaded with contraband items near the international border in East Khasi Hills District. Acting on specific intelligence, troops of the 110th Battalion and state police intercepted the vehicle at Ichamati T-Junction. The driver failed to provide valid documentation for the consignment. The apprehended individuals and the seized vehicle were handed over to the Customs Office in Shella for further investigation.
