Shillong, February 12 : The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya has achieved remarkable success in combating border crimes and strengthening bilateral ties in 2024.
In a press release, the BSF Meghalaya highlighted significant achievements, including the seizure of narcotics and other smuggled items worth a staggering ₹41.5 crore and the apprehension of 172 Indian nationals and 127 Bangladeshi nationals involved in various border-related crimes.
Key Accomplishments:
- Seizures: The BSF seized 2,547,654 kg of sugar, 2,880 bottles of Phensedyl, 11.50 kg of Ganja, 4,204 Yaba tablets, 28 kg of silver ornaments, 22,832 liquor bottles, ₹70,000 in fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN), and Taka 9,12,132.
- Apprehensions: A total of 299 individuals, including 127 Bangladeshi nationals and 172 Indians, were apprehended during various operations.
- Cattle Rescue: The BSF successfully rescued 1,612 cattle.
These achievements were made possible through close collaboration with state and central agencies in joint operations.
Beyond its core security duties, the BSF Meghalaya has demonstrated a strong commitment to the welfare of border communities. On 16 different occasions, BSF personnel provided assistance to needy patients, including those injured in accidents, by evacuating them to Shillong or the nearest hospitals. The force also conducted 35 civic action programs, distributing free medicines and essential items to villagers and students.
The BSF has also actively participated in bilateral meetings with Bangladeshi border guarding forces to address cross-border issues and enhance cooperation. These efforts aim to promote mutual understanding and ensure the well-being of communities living along the border.
