BSF Meghalaya Hailed for Swift Medical Evacuation, Saves Life in Remote Border Village

Shillong, July 31 : In a powerful display of humanitarian commitment, troops from the Border Security Force (BSF), Meghalaya Frontier, successfully conducted a critical medical evacuation, saving the life of a villager from the remote and difficult terrain of Hawai Bhoi in West Jaintia Hills. The timely action underscores BSF’s dedication to serving border communities beyond its core security mandate.

The incident unfolded at approximately 1:30 PM on July 30, 2025, when the village headman, Phumen Shadap, approached BSF personnel at BOP Muktapur (4 Bn BSF) with an urgent plea for help. Sanjay Shadap, a 45-year-old resident, was suffering from hematemesis (vomiting of blood) and required immediate medical attention. With the village inaccessible by ambulance due to poor road conditions, the situation was critical.

Responding promptly, the BSF team deployed a Bolero Camper vehicle to navigate the challenging terrain and reach the village. Shadap was safely evacuated to BOP Muktapur, where he was transferred to a BSF ambulance for the journey to NEIGRIHMS, Shillong.

According to a press release from BSF Meghalaya, the coordinated and swift efforts of the BSF personnel were instrumental in saving Shadap’s life. He is currently stable and receiving medical care at NEIGRIHMS.
