Shillong, January 27 : BSF Meghalaya troops have seized a large quantity of medicines, estimated to be worth ₹27.5 lakhs, in an operation near the Indo-Bangladesh border. Acting on a tip-off, personnel from the 172 Bn BSF discovered the cache hidden in a jungle area near the international border on January 25, 2025.
The medicines were believed to have been hidden by smugglers planning to transport them into Bangladesh through unfenced areas under the cover of night. The BSF noted that the demand for Indian pharmaceutical products in Bangladesh is high due to their global reputation and lower prices compared to Bangladeshi equivalents.
The seized medicines have been handed over to the relevant customs office for further investigation and necessary action. The BSF reiterated its commitment to preventing illegal cross-border activities and protecting national interests. They also urged residents in border areas to report any suspicious activity to local authorities and continue supporting efforts to maintain peace and security.
