Businessman Rescued, Abduction Bid Foiled by North Garo Hills Police; Three Arrested

Resubelpara, April 27: North Garo Hills Police successfully foiled an abduction attempt and rescued a businessman in a swift operation on April 25, following timely inputs from the public.

According to the police press release, Bajengdoba Police Station received credible information around 3:00 PM that unidentified individuals were abducting a businessman in a silver Ertiga vehicle. Acting promptly, a naka (checkpoint) was set up at Mansinggre.

Within half an hour, the suspect vehicle was intercepted along with the victim’s motorcycle being driven by one of the accused. The abducted businessman was found inside the vehicle and was immediately rescued by the police.

Preliminary investigation revealed that three miscreants had intercepted the victim along the Bolsong–Agia road, forcibly stopped him, snatched his motorcycle key and mobile phone, and robbed him of ₹30,000 before abducting him. One of the accused also rode the victim’s motorcycle alongside the vehicle.

The accused have been identified as Tenggra Ch. Marak alias Togan (36), Dipon D. Sangma (38), and Lovingson R. Marak (33), all residents of different parts of Garo Hills. During questioning, one of the accused claimed association with an NGO named United Garo People’s Forum.

A case has been registered at Bajengdoba Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway.

Police reiterated their firm stance against criminal activities, including those carried out under the guise of NGOs, and warned that strict legal action will be taken against offenders. The public has also been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
