Shillong, January 10 : The Government of Meghalaya’s inaugural Cabinet Retreat commenced today at Sohra, with the Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma, leading the event alongside Cabinet Ministers and senior civil servants. Running from January 10 to 11, the retreat is designed to foster collaboration and align state departments with the state’s long-term development goals, specifically the Vision 2032 initiative.
Addressing attendees, CM Conrad K. Sangma stressed the importance of aligning all government stakeholders with the state’s Vision 2032. He pointed out that while many departments focus on their internal tasks, it is crucial to remain focused on the broader collective goals for state development. “This platform will allow departments to introspect and reassess their contributions to the overarching vision,” said the Chief Minister
The CM highlighted the necessity of collaboration across departments and stressed the use of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to guide governance. “We must set clear, measurable targets that align with our mission,” Sangma asserted. He underscored that only through a unified approach, based on defined KPIs, will the state achieve effective and sustainable development.
During one of the thematic sessions, it was revealed that Meghalaya has outperformed the national average in terms of economic growth over the past three years. The state’s GDP for 2023-24 stands at Rs 53,000 crore, reflecting an impressive annual growth rate of 14-15 percent.
The retreat featured interactive thematic sessions focusing on key areas, including ‘Vision 2032’, ‘Nurturing the Social Ecosystem’, and ‘Infrastructure Focus: Power’. These sessions aim to spark cross-departmental collaboration and dialogue on the way forward for the state’s development.
The Cabinet Retreat marks a new initiative for Meghalaya, designed to promote departmental integration, enhance cross-learning, and provide a platform for transparent governance discussions. The event aims to identify areas for improvement, address gaps in collaboration, and ensure a holistic approach to achieving sustainable growth.
The Cabinet Retreat, continuing tomorrow, remains a vital step towards realizing the state’s ambitious Vision 2032 and enhancing governance and development processes.
