Guwahati, June 12 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Guwahati has arrested two individuals, including a Professor of Zoology and Dean of the School of Life Sciences at North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, in a bribery case involving Rs 3.43 lakh. A private person, identified as the proprietor of a firm from Guwahati, Assam, was also arrested during the transaction of the bribe at the Guwahati University Guest House.

The CBI registered a case on June 11, 2025, based on information suggesting that the accused private person, in collusion with the NEHU professor and others, was involved in corrupt practices. These practices allegedly facilitated the professor in obtaining undue advantage in exchange for awarding supply orders for scientific equipment, laboratory items, and the clearance of related bills.
