Shillong, October 5 : Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma attended the closing function of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) held at the Divine Retreat Centre, Kerala. The event marked 25 years of ICYM’s service, faith-based leadership, and dedication to youth empowerment across India.
The celebration began with a Holy Mass officiated by Cardinal Felipe Neri Ferrão of Goa, who also serves as the President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI). The Mass was attended by delegates and youth representatives from various parts of the country, marking a solemn and joyous culmination of ICYM’s milestone anniversary.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma congratulated the ICYM on its remarkable 25-year journey and commended the organization for nurturing young leaders of integrity and fostering a culture of compassion and service.
He urged the youth to be beacons of hope, standing firm in the face of challenges, and using their influence to promote truth, justice, and compassion. “Let this Jubilee be the fire that reignites your spirit, the challenge that sharpens your purpose, and the call that sets your feet in motion. Lead with boldness, serve with humility, and shine with the light of Christ,” he said.
CM Sangma encouraged the participants to prioritize wellness, develop practical skills, and embrace technology as a tool for truth and kindness. He highlighted the role of digital innovation and social entrepreneurship in uplifting marginalized communities and called upon the youth to bridge divides and serve inclusively with courage and integrity. “Harness social entrepreneurship to uplift the marginalized. Leverage global connections to think big and act locally,” he added.
The Chief Minister lauded the ICYM for its sustained contribution in empowering Catholic youth and building bridges between faith and social responsibility. He commended its efforts in shaping changemakers within the Church, the nation, and the global community.
