Tura, July 29 : In a major push for urban transformation, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday announced development projects worth over ₹500 crore for the town of Tura during a public interaction programme held at the Police Parade Ground.
The event, organized by the Tura Municipal Board under the flagship CM Connect initiative, served as a platform for the Chief Minister to directly engage with residents of Tura Bazar and surrounding areas. He addressed public grievances, responded to citizen queries, and laid out a roadmap for future development in South and North Tura.
Urban Infrastructure:
- Additional Secretariat – ₹160 crore project; tendering begins August 2025
- Convention Centre – ₹52 crore; construction already underway
- Hospitality Complex – ₹15 crore; work in progress
Sports & Games (in preparation for National Games 2027):
- P.A. Sangma Stadium – ₹127.7 crore
- Sports Hostel – DPR submitted for ₹73.74 crore
- P.A. Togan Athletic Stadium – Upgradation ongoing at ₹48.5 crore
- Sunny Hills Indoor Hall – ₹18.9 crore; to host badminton & table tennis events
Reaffirming his government’s focus on sustainable and inclusive development, the Chief Minister said these initiatives are part of a long-term vision to transform Tura into a modern urban hub while meeting the aspirations of its citizens.
The event saw participation from various departmental officials, reinforcing a multi-sectoral approach to regional development.
