CM Sangma Inaugurates ₹1.55 Crore Lummawbah Indoor Sports Hall

Shillong, January 22 : Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today inaugurated the new Lummawbah Indoor Sports Hall at a function organized by the Dorbar Shnong Lummawbah in collaboration with the Lummawbah Sports & Cultural Club. Also present at the inauguration was Adviser to the Chief Minister, Hamletson Dohling. The sports hall was constructed at a cost of ₹1.55 crore.

During his inaugural address, CM Sangma expressed his satisfaction with the completion of the project, acknowledging the hard work of Hamletson Dohling and the Dorbar Shnong in bringing the sports facility to fruition. He highlighted the collaborative effort between the community, political leadership, and the government in working towards the betterment of localities, society, and the stat. He further stated the government’s commitment to working with communities while respecting their culture, traditions, and practices, emphasizing community participation in government programs and policies.

The Chief Minister pledged full support to transform the Lummawbah Indoor Sports Hall into a vibrant hub for youth engagement in various sports. He noted the significant transformation of the sports department and sports infrastructure over the past seven years, aiming to provide youth with opportunities to develop their talents. He also spoke about the benefits of holding the Meghalaya Games annually in different parts of the state, emphasizing the creation of bonding, unity, and camaraderie. He added that sports, music, and arts provide constructive engagement for youth in modern times, with its many distractions. He emphasized that funds allocated to sports are not merely an expenditure but an investment in the youth, focusing not just on playing the game but also on instilling the values and discipline necessary to be a good sportsperson.

Addressing requests from local leaders for improvements in the locality and surrounding areas, the Chief Minister assured that he had taken note of their demands and would consult with the Dorbar Shnong to prioritize them. He also pledged to support the Dorbar Shnong’s proposal to the Tribal Affairs Ministry of the Government of India for an auditorium for arts and culture.
