Shillong, November 27 : The Assam Regimental Centre in Happy Valley hosted the Attestation Parade of the 6th Batch of Agniveers on Wednesday, with Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma presiding over the ceremony. The event marked the completion of 31 weeks of intensive military training and the formal induction of young recruits into the Indian Army.

A total of 783 trainees participated in the attestation ceremony, including 274 Agniveers and 509 Territorial Army recruits, who began their training on 1 May 2025.
The Agniveer batch reflected the diverse martial traditions of the Northeast, comprising: Naga/Kuki: 8, Mizo/Lushai: 2, Assamese/Kachari: 20, Arunachali: 18, Other NE States: 226

The Chief Minister reviewed a full ceremonial parade featuring a march-past, presentation of Regimental Colours, trooping of the National Flag and the administration of the oath. Selected parents of recruits were honoured with the ‘Gaurav Padak’ for their contribution to national service.

In his address, Conrad K. Sangma praised the storied history of the Assam Regiment, reminding attendees that the unit was raised in Shillong on 15 June 1941 and “bravely fought against the Japanese during the Second World War.” He described the induction of the new soldiers as a moment of “great pride” for the state and the regiment.

The Chief Minister emphasised the challenging duties awaiting the young soldiers, who will serve in high-altitude terrains, extreme weather, and remote border regions. He urged them to uphold the Regiment’s motto Asam Vikram, and to embody the Army’s core values: “Duty, Sacrifice, Discipline and Patriotism.”

Sangma congratulated the families of the recruits and expressed confidence in the preparedness of the newly attested soldiers. He also commended the dedication of the instructional staff responsible for shaping the trainees.

The ceremony ended with a slow march, the Army Song, the Regimental Song, and the National Anthem, followed by a group photograph of the passing-out batch. A PT display and an interaction session with parents were also held before the Chief Minister’s departure.
