Tura, June 18 : Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today inaugurated the newly constructed school building of Dalu Government Higher Secondary School in West Garo Hills. The event underscored the state government’s robust commitment to the holistic growth of its youth through significant investments in education, sports, music, and entrepreneurship.
Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Minister Sangma highlighted the administration’s dedicated efforts towards enhancing educational infrastructure across the state. “Our focus has been on holistic education, and in the last few years, we have ensured renovation, revamp, and new building constructions for all government LP Schools, Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools,” he stated. He further noted that new college infrastructure and the opening of new colleges have also been initiated, citing the Captain Williamson Sangma State University as a testament to the government’s priority on education.
The two-storey Dalu Govt HS School building was constructed under Mission Education Phase I, a state scheme launched in 2021. Ministers A.T. Mondal and Marcuise Marak, along with MLAs Sanjay Sangma, Brening A. Sangma, and Sengchim Sangma, were also present at the ceremony.
Chief Minister Sangma revealed that close to ₹3,000 crore has been invested in education, sports, and entrepreneurship through various programs including CM Elevate and PRIME, emphasizing the importance of channeling the positive energy of the youth. He also touched upon the state’s burgeoning sports sector, driven by preparations for the upcoming National Games. “We are building robust sports infrastructures across the State… Next week, we are calling all sports associations to discuss interventions to support and finance our sportspersons preparing for national games,” he informed, asserting that the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) awarded Meghalaya the National Games due to the state’s preparedness and capacity.
The Chief Minister reinforced the government’s dedication to nurturing local talent, stating, “Our youth are our asset, and we are doing our best to showcase, groom our talents, be it music or sports.” He also outlined initiatives such as implementing smart classrooms and technology-enabled learning across schools, and highlighted programs like MGMP, CM Elevate, and PRIME, which provide opportunities for artists and entrepreneurs.
During his visit to Dalu, Chief Minister Sangma also inaugurated the Dalu Immigration Check Post and a newly constructed bridge over the Bakla River. The bridge, built at a cost of ₹11 crore, replaces the previous structure that was damaged in the 2023 floods.
