Tura, March 10 : The District Magistrate of West Garo Hills, Vibhor Aggarwal, IAS, has extended the curfew imposed in the district for a further 48 hours following reports of violence and disturbance of public peace in several areas.
According to the order issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), the curfew will remain in force from 12:00 AM on March 11, 2026 until 12:00 AM on March 13, 2026, unless withdrawn earlier.
The extension comes after authorities assessed the prevailing law and order situation and concluded that stringent preventive measures are necessary to restore normalcy and prevent further escalation of violence in the district.
During the curfew period, no person shall move outside their residence within the limits of West Garo Hills District.
The order also states that all educational institutions, banks, commercial establishments, shops, markets, offices and other business establishments will remain closed during the curfew period.
However, essential services such as hospitals, pharmacies, emergency services, utilities and other services specifically permitted by the District Administration will be allowed to operate.
The District Magistrate has directed all law enforcement agencies, Executive Magistrates and police officers to strictly enforce the curfew and take necessary action against anyone found violating the order.
Authorities warned that any violation of the curfew will attract penal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and other relevant provisions of law.
The order has been issued on an emergency basis considering the serious threat to public order and safety in the district.
