Shillong, October 13: Teachers and employees under the Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA) and the Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers and Employees Association (GHDSTEA) have begun a three-day mass casual leave from October 13 to 15, 2026, over what they described as the government’s failure to address their pending demands.
The two associations said they decided to proceed with the agitation after failing to receive what they considered a proper and satisfactory response from the state government on issues raised earlier.
According to the associations, a letter dated October 8 from D. Lyngdoh, Joint Secretary in the Education Department, did not address the specific points of demand placed before the government.
They said their key demands include the revocation of Scheme 2026 and restoration of BOT, among other issues.
The associations further objected to the government’s communication directing registration of PRAN under Scheme 2026 and referring to the inclusion of deficit teachers and employees in a board constituted on April 27, 2026, saying these did not address their principal demands.
They also claimed that several other issues raised by them remained unanswered.
In view of this, KJDSTA and GHDSTEA said they would continue with their agitation programme and urged the government to consider what they described as their legitimate demands.
The associations maintained that they remain ready to place their concerns before the government again and appealed to deficit teachers and employees to cooperate with the agitation.
They also requested parents and students to bear with the associations during the three-day mass casual leave.
