Dial 112 for all emergencies, Meghalaya Police tells public

Shillong, October 28: The Meghalaya Police has urged people to dial 112 for any emergency, whether they need the police, fire services, help in a disaster or other emergency services.

The number works under the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS), which brings all emergency services together under one helpline.

In a communication, the Office of the Director General of Police noted that newspapers regularly publish the police control room numbers 2226101 and 2222217, and the fire service numbers 101, 2227000 and 2520400, in their “Important Telephone Numbers” listings.

To make the single helpline better known, the office has asked newspapers to list 112 in place of the fire service numbers 101, 2227000 and 2520400.

The office said the move aims to make the public familiar with the common helpline so that people can get emergency help by calling just one number.
