DIPR Conclave on Emerging Trends in Public Communication Held in Shillong

Shillong, March 6 : The Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Government of Meghalaya, organized a Conclave on “Emerging Trends in Public Communication – Redefining the Role of DIPR” on 5th March, 2025 at the State Convention Centre, Shillong. Dr. M Ampareen Lyngdoh, IPR Minister, attended the event as the chief guest, while Dr. Shakil P. Ahammed, Additional Chief Secretary as guest of honour and Patricia Mukhim, Editor of The Shillong Times as a special guest. The event was also attended by Vijay Kumar Mantri, Commissioner & Secretary, IPR, B.S. Sohliya, Secretary & Director of I&PR, and other DIPR officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. M Ampareen Lyngdoh, IPR Minister, emphasized the vital role of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) in ensuring effective communication between the government and its citizens. She stated, “The role of DIPR needs to be redefined. In today’s fast-paced world, it is crucial that the department adapts to the changing dynamics of communication, ensuring that government initiatives and schemes reach the last mile – to every citizen, regardless of their location.”

The minister went on to explain that the DIPR plays a central role in informing citizens about the various government schemes available to them. “While these schemes can often be seen, the true strength of the DIPR is its ability to disseminate information widely and effectively. It is not always about being visible, but about ensuring that the message is received, understood, and acted upon,” she remarked.

Dr. Lyngdoh stressed that the DIPR’s role in governance is of utmost importance. “We have a prime responsibility to be the multiplier of information, empowering citizens by providing them with the knowledge they need to avail the various schemes and resources available to them,” she emphasized. She also highlighted DIPR’s strategic importance in governance, calling for a more dynamic and impactful approach in facilitating the flow of information that enables transparency, accountability, and citizen participation.
