Tura, March 10 : Dr. Mukul Sangma, has filed a complaint at Phulbari Police Station regarding a video allegedly showing Estamur Mominin addressing a gathering following the incident in which he was reportedly assaulted while attempting to file his nomination for the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections.
According to the complaint, the video began circulating on the evening of March 9, 2026, and shows the individual addressing a group of people after the alleged assault that occurred earlier the same morning at the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Tura, where nomination papers for the District Council elections were being filed.
The complaint states that the speech allegedly contained strong and provocative election-related remarks, at a time when the situation in the region was already tense due to the issue of participation of non-tribal candidates in the GHADC elections. It further alleged that the remarks may have unintentionally or deliberately provoked certain groups and could contribute to disharmony among communities.
Dr. Sangma also stated in the complaint that during the speech, his name along with two other public figures was mentioned as having given tacit approval for the filing of the nomination, which he described as false and misleading, asserting that no such approval or discussion had taken place.
The complaint further warned that such statements, if left unchecked, could spread rumours, sow seeds of discord, and incite tensions among communities in the district.
Based on the circulating video, it appears that the gathering may have consisted of more than ten individuals, although there is no clear photographic or video evidence confirming the exact size of the crowd.
Dr. Sangma has requested the police to take appropriate legal action under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and any other applicable laws against those responsible.
Authorities are expected to examine the complaint and the circulating video as part of the investigation.
