Shillong, May 23 : The State Level Inter School Athletic Meet, a vibrant three-day sporting spectacle, concluded today at the Sports Authority of India (SAI), NEHU, Shillong, marking a successful culmination of athleticism, dedication, and sportsmanship. Organized jointly by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, and the Meghalaya Athletics Association, the event ran from May 19th to May 22nd, 2025.
The meet featured an impressive 48 track and field events, drawing over 780 enthusiastic athletes from all 12 districts of Meghalaya, competing across various age categories. The smooth execution of the event was further supported by 36 officials and 200 dedicated volunteers across different disciplines.
The concluding ceremony was graced by a host of dignitaries, including the Education Minister, Rakkam Sangma, as the chief guest. He was joined by D. D Shira, MCS, Director of Sports & Youth Affairs department; P B War Nongbri, Additional Director; K Passah, Assistant Director, all from the Sports and Youth Affairs department; W L Warjri, Principal, Shillong Polytechnic Institute; along with other senior officials from the Sports Department, Police, School Authorities, and representatives of the Meghalaya Athletics Association.
In his address, Minister Rakkam A Sangma lauded the organizers for the flawless execution of the Meet and extended his congratulations to all the athletes for their commendable achievements. He encouraged the medal winners to view their successes as an inspiration to pursue bigger dreams, embody true sportsmanship, and continuously refine their skills. He specifically highlighted the meet’s crucial role in preparing Meghalaya’s athletes for the upcoming National Games in 2027. P B War Nongbri and K Passah delivered the votes of thanks.
East Khasi Hills District showcased exceptional athletic prowess, securing the prestigious title of Overall Champions and the Best Team. Their impressive medal tally included 23 Gold, 11 Silver, and 8 Bronze medals.
In the team categories, East Khasi Hills also emerged as the Best Team in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions, clinching 10 Gold medals in the boys’ category and a remarkable 13 Gold medals in the girls’ category. The runner-up position in the boys’ category was secured by East Jaintia Hills with 5 gold medals, while North Garo Hills earned the runner-up spot in the girls’ category with 3 gold medals.

Furthermore, East Khasi Hills swept the “Best Athlete” titles across several categories. In the Under 16 boys’ category, Saidul Ali from East Khasi Hills stood out as the Best Athlete, while Rukini R T Dkhar, also from East Khasi Hills, dominated the girls’ category. For the Under 18 age group, Henry Yoga Sangma from East Khasi Hills bagged the Best Athlete title in the boys’ category, and Pringchi R Marak from East Khasi Hills excelled in the girls’ category.
The Under 14 “Best Athlete” awards went to Rikangku D Sangma from South Garo Hills in the boys’ category and Akangesa A Sangma from West Garo Hills in the girls’ category, showcasing talent from across the state.
