Education Dept. Releases First Installment of ST Post-Matric Scholarship, Benefits 66,000 Students

Shillong, June 22 : The Education Department, Government of Meghalaya, has announced the release of the first installment, comprising 20% of the total amount, under the Umbrella Scholarship for Scheduled Tribe (ST) Students. This initial disbursement benefits 66,000 eligible students whose bank accounts are actively linked with Aadhaar.

This year marks a new approach by the Education Department to ensure that every eligible student receives their due amount in each installment, a departure from previous years when the Post-Matric Scholarship was released in 3-4 installments, often leaving many students waiting anxiously for their share. The remaining balance of the scholarship will be released in 2-3 further installments, contingent on the release schedule of funds from the Government of India.

The department clarified that this particular scholarship is distinct from the Chief Minister’s Scholarship Scheme, which was announced during the last Budget Session. Registrations for the Chief Minister’s Scholarship Scheme will commence following its formal notification and detailed guidelines.

The first installment was initiated on June 20, 2025. For the remaining 7,902 beneficiaries whose scholarships have not yet been credited, an SMS notification was sent on June 20, 2025, from the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). This SMS advises students to verify and update their Aadhaar seeding/linking status with their respective banks. Beneficiaries have a 15-day period from the receipt of the SMS to comply with the Aadhaar linking requirement. Payments for those who successfully update their Aadhaar linkage will be processed through the NSP payment module after this 15-day period, as the NSP system does not permit earlier payment initiation.

For any queries or concerns, students can contact [email protected] or call 7005037347/9077574956. The announcement was made by the Commissioner & Secretary, Department of Education, Government of Meghalaya.
