Williamnagar, March 13: The District Magistrate of East Garo Hills has permitted limited functioning of essential commercial activities in the Williamnagar Main Bazar area under strict regulations to maintain public order and safety.
According to an order issued by District Magistrate R.P. Marak, IAS, under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, the Main Bazar area will be allowed to open only for a limited period from 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM until further orders.
The order, issued on March 13, comes as a continuation of earlier restrictions imposed on March 12 to regulate commercial activities in the town amid the prevailing law and order situation.
The administration has allowed only essential shops dealing with food and daily necessities, including grocery stores and food provisions, to operate during the permitted hours.
All non-essential commercial establishments, including shops selling electronics, clothing, garments, footwear, hardware, and other non-essential goods, will remain strictly closed until further notice.
The order states that the Williamnagar Main Bazar area will remain under strict surveillance, with the district administration and law enforcement authorities closely monitoring movement and activities to prevent any disturbance to public order.
Vegetable vendors have been directed to continue their vending activities only at the Parade Ground in Williamnagar during the curfew relaxation period. No vegetable vendors will be allowed to operate within the Main Bazar area.
Police officials and Executive Magistrates have been instructed to ensure strict enforcement of the order. Authorities warned that any violation will attract legal action under relevant provisions of law.
The district administration has urged residents to cooperate with the authorities in maintaining peace and normalcy in the area.
